As is he hasn’t raffled as many feathers yet, Yu Zheng once again managed to shake up the the public with his pick for the Little Dragon Maiden/ Xiao Long Nu in his latest adaptation for the upcoming and much loved Return of the Condor Heroes (神雕侠侣). Many C-actresses were rumored to be up in the running and no one expected nor anticipated Michelle Chen to be the one. Including this writer. I could have stomached Angelababy for her beauty alone but MC?!
Seriously YuZheng? I can never for the life of me picture her as the legendary beauty Xiao Long Nu. The entire web practically imploded with that announcement. Some people are again clamoring for him to quit the entertainment industry. But he’s not the only one getting the ire of the public, who’s also hurling insult to his choice Michelle Chen. Some of them are so mean I can’t even write about them. Maybe he saw something in her that we can’t/didn’t.
Michelle Chen is not a new comer, having been in the TW entertainment scene since her early teens. I vaguely remember her as Rainie Yang's BFF in Why Why Love 換換愛but it was not until You are the Apple of My Eye which was a huge success which made her a household name. I love that movie and it made me like Kai Ko.
Xiao Long Nu is a well loved character among Louis Cha's novels. In the past Carmen Lee and Liu Yi Fei played the part, both known for their beauty and grace. Yang Guo was played by Louis Koo and Huang Xiao Ming (among others). This time Chen Xiao will play the part and Jiro Wang will also star as Kublai Khan.
