Thoughts on BIG episode 1-2
At first I thought the story will focus on Gong Yoo’s character Yoon Jae but apparently the main story revolves around Kang Gyung Joon and Gil Da ran. In the first episode I felt like the writers are trying to establish the connection between these two characters. Like they are trying to tell me that these are the characters that I should root for. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like I want to root for them. It feels kinda strange because you know that the woman is supposed to be a teacher in her mid to late 20’s while the man is an 18 year old boy. It’s just kind of unsettling. So it left me wondering how long Gyung Joon’s body will remain in a coma.
One interesting factor is whether Yoon Jae is a scumbag or not. In the beginning his character seemed shady, especially with the ticket he stashed in the “miracle” book which I think suggests that he intends to leave Da ran. He may or may not also have a love affair with the lady doctor. Personally, I don’t want the real Yoon Jae to be a scumbag. I would like to see him try to live as Gyung Joon and see how he would act in front of Ma ri (Suzy). I would like to see this dynamics and not just the Da ran/Gyung Joon dynamics.
Another thing which I dislike was how different the real Gyung Joon and the Gyung Joon in Yoon Jae’s body are. Gyung Joon was very cool and acted very matured in the beginning, on the other hand, after the switch his character became this loud, cutesy and very childish character. However, I do find Gong Yoo’s acting very lovable.
Having said this, I would still continue watching and see if the writers can manage to come up with interesting twists along the way.
