Waking Love Up (爱情睡醒了)
Aired in September 2011 over Anhui TV.
I didn’t know that this was a remake of Prince Turns into Frog before watching it. So after a couple of episodes I was like, wait a minute, why does it feel like I’ve seen this? A couple more episodes and I knew this has got to be a remake and so found out later on that it actually is. The basic elements are all still there including the conflicts and struggles of the 5 main actors; Roy Chiu as Xiang Tian Qi the president of a large hotel group (which was played by Mingdao previously). I think that he did a good job in portraying the role although he got some big shoes to fill. Tang Yan is Liu Xiao Bei a kind-hearted village girl (played by Chen Qiao-en in the original) Honestly, I didn’t like her portrayal at all. She was irritating and too childish! And did she have to scream so much? Qiao-en did a much better job! Jones Wu (Ji Rufeng) and Qi Wei (Mu Zhiqing) on the other hand, has done a much better job. I was actually rooting for them. James Wen (QuiYan) was also a pleasant addition to the cast as the overbearing wanna be CEO.
There were a few changes from the original mostly with the location. The Liu’s family house for one was better. But I have to admit that I enjoyed watching it. I guess the story itself is that good regardless of the cast.
